Mir Imran co-founded Ventritex, Inc, in 1985. The company developed implantable defibrillators and related products such as the Cadence V-100 implantable defibrillator, which was designed to monitor the patient's heartbeat and deliver electrical pulses or shocks to the patient's heart to terminate ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation.

Ventritex completed a $100M IPO in January 1992, before being acquired by St. Jude Medical in October 1996, in a deal worth $505M.
